The Radden family gave up a collective “Wow!” as they crossed the threshold of their new home in west Champaign.

Come on, buying a brand-new home is exciting stuff. It’s an integral part of the American dream. The Raddens were overjoyed as they walked into their new house, the place where they will gather and make family memories for years to come. This is the home where their children will grow, feel safe and secure, and become young men. It’s a poetic and sentimental experience, and At Home in Central Illinois magazine was honored to be part of that special unveiling of the new home for this young family.

Drs. Genene Radden and Homer Radden had recently purchased the Home Builders Association of East Central Illinois 2016 Showcase of Homes build by Premier Homes of Champaign. Premier Homes founder Mike Conlin, and partner Adam Yoder are very happy for the Raddens. Conlin and Yoder have over 30 years of experience in homebuilding in East Central Illinois. Among the specialties that Central Illinois builders feature in this area are green elements in every home designed and built.

Not only did the Raddens purchase a showcase home, they purchased the home fully decorated by These Four Walls of Monticello, owned by Amy and Todd Lienhart. It’s a dream come true to buy a home that is furnished and decorated — just move in and start living.

“This is an incredible story. Plus, they are the nicest people. They have the cutest kids, too,” Amy Lienhart said.

The Raddens are originally from the Detroit area. Both attended medical school at Wayne State University School of Medicine. Genene Radden is a member of the American College of Rheumatology and the American Medical Association, and is the newest addition to Christie Clinic’s department of rheumatology. Homer Radden is a board-certified anesthesiologist with Carle Clinic, with licenses in both Illinois and Nevada.

For some time, the Raddens lived in Bloomington, as Genene was based out of Bloomington-Normal, and Homer made the commute to Champaign-Urbana. They now make their home right here with their two boys: Homer — the third Homer after his father and grandfather — and Bill, the younger of the two.

“I’ve been with Carle for over 10 years,” Homer Radden said from his new front lawn.

The Radden boys waited eagerly that special night of the home unveiling on the porch of their soon-to-be home. Being of elementary school age, they squirmed with excitement just a little bit as they waited with their dad for their mom to arrive.

“Here she is! She is coming down the street,” Bill said as he and his older brother skipped to the edge of the yard to see their mother drive up the lane.

“I’m so glad she’s here,” young Homer said.

This expansive five-bedroom, three full baths and one half-bath, features 2,492 square feet with a finished basement that has all the qualities anyone could want in a new home. A grand entry with an open floor plan makes for a dramatic entrance. The proof was evident when the Raddens entered their new home. They collectively stopped and just stared.

“Wow,” Bill said as he looked at his father.

In every area of the house, there are high-end light fixtures in place for lighting and accents to the other features in the home. The hardwood floors are wide-planked with shades of light gray, beige and tan throughout its intricate wood grain. The wood flooring is in place throughout most of the first floor.

In the heart of the home — the kitchen — the cabinetry was custom-built with quality materials, so there is ample storage plus a walk-in pantry. Gleaming granite countertops, a wet bar with additional mini-fridge, an eat-in area and a formal dining area make this a multipurpose home built for entertaining.

Upstairs, the bedrooms are spacious, expansive and well-designed. Plus, there are a cathedral ceiling and an adjacent sitting and relaxation area in the master bedroom. Likewise, the master bathroom is tastefully appointed with a spectacular custom-tiled walk-in shower.

It’s difficult to call the lower level a mere basement. Its additional living space in the finished family gathering area is complete with a wet bar area that will make for cozy family memories. There is also a bedroom and a full bath in the basement, too.

Genene Radden said they will make good use of these for their guests.

At Home in Central Illinois would like to sincerely thank the Raddens for their hospitality and sharing this special moment with us! Enjoy your new home and your new year!
